Exclusive Book Launch | DRESS IN THE AGE OF JANE AUSTEN: Regency Fashion with Hilary Davidson
Tuesday 19 Nov 2019, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join author Hilary Davidson as she introduces and reads from her new publication Dress In The Age Of Jane Austen.

Jane Austen’s famously observant fictional writings, as well as her letters, provide the entry point for examining the Regency age’s rich complexity of fashion, dress, and textiles for men and women in their contemporary contexts.

Austen’s novels have become synonymous with early 19th century fashion, especially through filmed adaptations of her work. But what did people in this period really wear? How would Austen, her family and her characters have dressed as they moved through the countryside, villages and cities of late Georgian England?

This conversation explores the world of Regency clothing to bring to life the fashionable world in the time of Jane Austen.

Dr. Kylie Mormohamadi will formally launch DRESS IN THE AGE OF JANE AUSTEN: Regency Fashion

Books will be available for purchase at a special event price of $59.99 (RRP $79.99)

DRESS IN THE AGE OF JANE AUSTEN: Regency Fashion is lavishly illustrated with paintings, drawings, historic garments, and fashion plates—including many previously unpublished images—this authoritative yet accessible book will help readers visualise the external selves of Austen’s immortal characters as clearly as she wrote of their internal ones. The result is an enhanced understanding of Austen’s work and time, and also of the history of one of Britain’s most distinctive fashion eras.
