The Wheeler Centre asked key thinkers to argue an impassioned case for optimism. And then to argue the opposite.

Tackling the central question: Where will we be as a society in five years’ time? the writers conducted a debate with a difference. There were no teams but all five speakers had to argue two sides: a positive and a negative view of the future

Hosted by writer and broadcaster Annabel Crabb, speakers include feminist author Eva Cox, Robogals founder and former Young Australian of the Year Marita Cheng, political journalist and author George Megalogenis, Tasmanian Department of Justice secretary Simon Overland and medical anthropologist Gregory Phillips.
