Last night Charlotte Wood won the 2016 Stella Prize for her novel The Natural Way of Things, described by the judges as ‘ a novel of – and for – our times, explosive yet written with artful, incisive coolness’. Her acceptance speech went beyond thanks to a full-throated argument for writing:
