Percentage of women reviewed has dropped since 2016, Stella Count reveals

The 2017 Stella Count reveals a decrease in the number of books by female authors to have been reviewed in Australian media outlets.

Since the Stella Count started tracking the gender breakdown of book reviews coverage from 2012 onwards, there have been noticeable drops over consecutive years. But the outlook was hopeful in 2016 when it was reported that for the first time, ‘all twelve of the publications surveyed either increased or maintained their percentage of women authors reviewed compared with the previous year.’
