If you’re a member of a book club, it’s likely the act of dissecting a piece of literature in a shared setting will sharpen your analytical skills and give you insights into others’ opinions through the work, but how deep are the insights?

New research by Australian Catholic University literature researcher Dr Maggie Nolan says while book clubs are spaces where ordinary readers can navigate complex ethical quandaries, it’s important to understand the nature of conversations people have about books and how they affect our attitude to one another.
