New prize honours literature with sculpture

The Melbourne Prize has introduced a new category to honour the City of Literature.

Louis Laumen’s Magic Pudding Sculpture in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne

The 2017 Melbourne Prize is for Urban Sculpture. It offers a major prize of $60,000 plus another $60,000 in prizes across four categories. Finalists also gain the opportunity to be exhibited in a free public exhibition of finalists work at Federation Square.

New to the prize categories is a $10,000 Public Artwork Design Concept Award 2017 which will go to  a design concept that best celebrates Melbourne’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.
