The Dictionary of Lost Words voted Indie Book of the Year

Williams’ novel, based on the creation of the first Oxford English Dictionary, has been honoured as the overall winner at this year’s Indie Book Awards, with Craig Silvey and Julia Baird also celebrated.

Pip Williams has won the Indie Book Awards 2021 Book of the Year for her book The Dictionary of Lost Words published by Affirm Press.

Described by bookseller judge Katherine Downey as an ‘exceptionally satisfying’ novel, Downey praised the author’s grasp of history. ‘Williams transports us to nineteenth century England with confidence and panache and to the workings of the scriptorium with an attention to detail that reveals the depth of her research.
