The best writers’ festival in Australia: Mildura

MILDURA WRITERS' FESTIVAL: The best writers' festival in Australia. The word most used to describe the festival by Festival Director, Helen Healy is convivial (which I looked up - it means the quality of being friendly and lively; fond of feasting and merry company).

Mildura Writers’ Festival is small, which is the big thing about it. With audiences that only just reach into the hundreds, a requirement that authors stick around for the whole thing (not just their own sessions) and Mildura icons, Stephano di Pieri and his wife nurturing conversation with excellent regional food and wine; it’s more like an extended dinner party than a festival.

‘A ‘festival’ is literally a ‘feast’ and so once again we invite you to partake of the rich and hearty offerings,’ says the festival’s Artistic Director Paul Kane in his welcoming comments. Mildura’s festival is ‘a place where authors look forward to spending time with other authors and with appreciative audiences.’
