‘The proper definition of a man is an animal that writes letters,’ wrote Lewis Carroll.

By that definition few men – or women – are proper any more. Putting pen to paper is an anachronistic activity. But that doesn’t mean the creative work of letter-writing has disappeared. New forms of electronic communication are breeding new kinds of letter art – without the need to have legible handwriting.
