ArtsHub spoke with 2020 Miles Franklin shortlisted author Peggy Frew about her latest novel 'Islands', and how feeling like an outsider as a child propelled her to write.

Celebrating literature that presents Australian life in any of its phases, The Miles Franklin Award, a $60,000 prize and presented by Perpetual as the Award Trustee, has announced its 2020 shortlist.

Making the cut this year are The White Girl by Tony Birch; Islands by Peggy Frew; No One by John Hughes; The Returns by Philip Salom; Exploded View by Carrie Tiffany, and The Yield by Tara June Winch.
