Parramatta Artists Studios
About the Course
The art of picture books
Parramatta Artists Studios is providing a unique opportunity for budding authors and illustrators to learn about the process involved in creating picture books through its ‘Picture Books: Words and Picture’ workshop on Thursday, 19 July at 6.30pm.
The free workshop will feature a panel of leading publishers, writers and illustrators, including author Libby Gleeson AM, who has written more than 30 children’s books and is the Chair of WestWords, a not-for-profit literature centre in North Parramatta.
“This is a fantastic chance for writers and artists in our community to meet like-minded individuals and form creative partnerships, while developing their skills and gaining valuable advice from industry experts,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
The event will also feature multi-award-winning illustrator Wayne Harris, who is a designer for Walker Books, along with illustrator Uma Jeyaseelan and author Zarlasht Sarwari. Jeyaseelan and Sarwari created a multilingual picture book together during their residency at Lost in Books and will discuss the collaboration process between illustrator and author.
This exciting event is part of Studio Stories, a series of workshops and talks at Parramatta Artists Studios, aimed at writers and artists in Western Sydney. The series is curated by local author Felicity Castagna, finalist in the prestigious 2018 Miles Franklin Literary Award for her Western Sydney-based book No More Boats.
Illustrators and writers are invited to come and mingle, ask questions and meet potential new collaborators. Light catering and refreshments will be provided to participants. Bookings not required.
The ‘Picture Books: Words and Picture’ event is presented by Parramatta Artists Studios in partnership with Studio Stories, Lost in Books, WestWords and Finishing School.
Parramatta Artists Studios is an initiative of the City of Parramatta and provides affordable studio spaces for artists from Parramatta and beyond. It also offers a range of events, workshops and arts activities to the broader community throughout the year.
The workshop will be held at the Studios at Level 2, 68 Macquarie Street, Parramatta.
