‘The most important revelation of my writing career was learning that there’s no reject-young-people-of-talent conspiracy going on. Actually, there’s a sector full of people on frantic searches for disciplined and dedicated young creatives who have enough developed talent to make the things audiences and readers want to consume.’ – Van Badham.

Young and emerging writers are the flavour of the month with Melbourne Writers Festival championing inspiring young talent in their 30th anniversary year, the launch of the Emerging Writers’ Festival to take place from Tuesday 26 May – Friday June 5 in Melbourne, and last but not least Express Media’s is the National Young Writers Month.

Held in June each year, National Young Writers’ Month (NYWM) puts the spotlight on young Australian writers and challenges them to set and accomplish their writing goals. Featuring 30 days of online and offline activities that connect young writers across Australia, the NYWM offers countless ways to share your work, get advice, collaborate and be inspired by other creative people.

This year’s program, entitled ‘Find Your Words’ will see the Express Media website transformed into a dedicated hub with writers as Oliver Mol, Zoe Norton-Lodge, Eliza Henry-Jones, Katie Parrish, Neha Kale and Kaitlyn Plyley sharing tips ranging from how to get started to managing a successful freelance career.

A highlight of this year’s program is the launch of Voiceworks #100, a special double-issue of Express Media’s flagship publication. The official launch will be in Melbourne on Friday 29 May at 1000 Pound Bend as part of the Emerging Writers’ Festival, with interstate launches in in Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart and Brisbane held as part of NYWM.
