Sometimes deciding what books to read can be the hardest way to start your holidays. Here's what we think should make the cut.

This is the season to run out to your local bookstore and buy a few books you won’t be able to put down. Whether you’re inclined to avoid all things Christmas, or plan on spending your well-earned holidays with family and friends enjoying the festivities, finding the time to read is always a luxury in itself – and not one you want to waste.

As Mark Rubbo, managing director of Readings commented, the success of local Australian authors has led to many great options for the public this year. ‘As literary culture has matured it gets more and more sophisticated, the range and breadth of the writing becomes greater and there is much more for people to chose. And the writing is getting better as well,’ said Rubbo.
